District scores 100 on performance report
Dec. 18, 2002

Springfield Public Schools scored the maximum of 100 points possible on the annual performance report issued by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. As a result, Springfield Public Schools has been awarded the "Annual Distinction in Performance Award."

"This is a remarkable accomplishment that reflects the 33 percent gain our district has made since the last annual performance report in 2001," said Superintendent Jack Ernst. "Thanks to the daily efforts of principals, teachers and staff, our dropout rate is declining, student test scores are improving and reading proficiency is growing."

To earn this distinction, Springfield Public Schools met all Missouri Assessment Program performance standards, which are the same criteria DESE uses to determine accreditation for school districts. These include MAP test scores, ACT test scores, attendance and dropout rates, and other academic performance measures.

Although districts are reviewed and accredited once every five years, the Distinction in Performance designation is awarded annually.

"The annual performance report is a benchmark that helps us track how we are doing between MSIP reviews," explained Dr. Teresa White, director of research and assessment. "With this feedback, we can determine what adjustments, if any, we need to make to ensure we earn accreditation."

Springfield Public Schools is scheduled for its next accreditation review in fall 2005.
