Donation pays for sixth grade field trip
Dec. 12, 2002

A $20,000 donation from Great Southern will allow all Springfield Public Schools sixth graders to participate in a science field trip to American National Fish and Wildlife Museum. The field trip will provide hands-on experiences to help students apply science concepts they are learning in the classroom.

The donation to Springfield Public Schools will pay admission to the museum for almost 2,000 sixth graders. A grant from the Springfield Public Schools Foundation will fund transportation costs for the field trips.

“This will be a great opportunity for our students because the field trip ties directly into what they are learning at school,” said Randy Russell, director of community development. “Through the generosity of Great Southern and Wonders of Wildlife, our sixth graders will have the opportunity to actively learn about wildlife and conservation.”

Before and after visiting the museum, district sixth graders will participate in classroom activities, supported by a workbook specifically designed by the museum’s conservation education center.
