Kindergarten registration begins March 17
Jan. 31, 2003

Springfield Public Schools will conduct kindergarten registration March 17-March 21 for children who will start school this fall. To enroll in kindergarten, a child must be five years old before Aug. 1, 2003.

Registration will be held at the elementary school where the child will attend. Parents should call the school to find out registration dates and times. The child's birth certificate, immunization record and social security number are required for registration.

When parents register their child they will also schedule an appointment for a pre-kindergarten screening. The screening evaluates skills in the following areas: motor (gross and fine), concepts and language. Hearing and vision screenings will also be conducted.

"The screening provides parents information about their child's development," explained Diane Buatte, director of early childhood development. "After the screening, parents will receive information on their child's performance including a list of their child's strengths and weaknesses."

All screenings will be conducted at McDaniel School, 237 S. Florence. For more information or to schedule a screening, call 895-2015.
