Dates set for public meetings on improvements to Parkview Two public meetings in June will offer community members an opportunity to share input on plans to improve Parkview High School. The 47-year-old school is scheduled to receive a $10 million face-lift over the next two years thanks to voters’ approval of a bond issue in April. From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, and Saturday, June 21, informal community meetings will be held in the Parkview library. Participants will be able to talk one-on-one with representatives of Lohmeyer-Russell and Associates architects and Springfield Public Schools staff. “Our ultimate objective with this project is to create the best possible educational environment for Parkview students,” said Principal Judy Brunner. “To accomplish that we need community input. All are welcome to attend one of these meetings and become engaged in defining a vision for the new and improved Parkview High School.” This month architects have been meeting with Parkview staff, students and parents to identify needs and gather information. Input from all stakeholders will assist the architects in developing a final design proposal for the project. Construction is expected to begin in May 2004 with completion of the project planned for August 2005. In the next three years, Springfield Public Schools will improve 21 sites in addition to Parkview using $30 million in bond funds. Projects planned include air-conditioning all district summer school sites, building a new southwest school and roofing, window, heating and electrical upgrades to existing buildings. |
