Duncan-Atnip named May Starcatcher

Wilder Elementary School physical education teacher Diana Duncan-Atnip was named Springfield Public Schools’ Starcatcher for May.
Superintendent Jack Ernst presents the award monthly to an employee who demonstrates a commitment to the mission, belief and vision of the district. Starcatcher nominations are submitted throughout the year by principals and building peers.
Duncan-Atnip, "Coach D," has served 22 years in the district as an elementary PE teacher. She has spent most of that time at Wilder where in recent years, she developed juggling and card stacking activities for kids.
Once a week, interested students arrive an hour early for school to learn how to juggle and stack cards. Many have gone on to perform these skills at various schools and community events.
Parents appreciate the extra time Duncan-Atnip devotes to teaching these unique skills, which builds self-esteem and motivates students to come to school.
