Norman resigns from board
May 16, 2006

Mary Norman announced Tuesday she will resign from the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education effective June 30.

“At this time, circumstances in my personal life are making it difficult to serve the district with the focus that I believe is necessary to be a truly effective board member,” Norman said in a prepared statement at Tuesday’s board meeting.

“It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve with this board and I will miss it greatly,” said told board members.
The board voted to accept her resignation, setting the stage for a board appointment to be seated by July 1.

Applications will be accepted through June 7. Those interested should submit their qualifications and reasons for wanting to serve to the Springfield School Board, 940 N. Jefferson Ave., Springfield, MO, 65802.

Interviews are scheduled for June 20; the board will make their final selection on June 22.

Under board policy, the appointed seat will again be open at the next school board election in April 2007. The winner of that race will have to run again in April 2008 to hold the seat for a three-year term; that’s when Norman’s three-year term would have expired.
