District is fundraising champ for Relay for Life
May 26, 2006

For the third straight year, Springfield Public Schools was the overall fundraising champion in this year’s Relay For Life of Springfield held May 19-20 at Hillcrest High School.

Nineteen district teams raised more than $47,400.

More than 190 area teams participated in the American Cancer Society event. Proceeds go to cancer research, patient services and advocacy, and prevention and education.

The Springfield relay is the 10th largest event among more than 4,300 Relay for Life events in the U.S., according to American Cancer Society officials.

As of May 26, the Springfield event raised $704,000.
