In an effort to help students prepare for success, Springfield Public Schools will offer summer classes for students who will be in kindergarten through 12th grade during the 2009-2010 school year.

At the elementary level, Jumpstart Kindergarten is a program designed to prepare incoming kindergartners with the knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in kindergarten.

Students entering grades 1st through 5th have the opportunity to reinforce and explore further development and skill building in pre-reading, reading, writing, math, and language skills.  Enrichment courses ranging from the study of stars and planets to the study of bugs are also offered.

At the middle school level, students have the opportunity to enroll in classes that will provide reinforcement or in classes that will provide the student with a rigorous and fast paced learning experience.  CSI Science and Website Design are just a sample of the classes middle school students have the opportunity to participate in.

High school students can receive up to one full credit during summer school toward the required 25 credits needed for graduation.  Classes in Foreign Language, Communication Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Social Studies, Science, and Driver’s Education are offered.

In addition to our traditional summer classes, we are pleased to provide a program for students who are interested in the arts.  The ARTWORKS Program, now in its 27th year, is a multi-disciplinary approach to the arts.  The program allows students to study with professional artists and art teachers in the visual media and performing arts for an intensive ten days.  ARTWORKS is for students who will be in grades 4th through 8th for the 2009-2010 school year.

The 2009 Summer School Calendar is now available. Summer School registration will begin in mid-April.  Join us this summer to continue the learning experience with Springfield Public Schools.
