About the Board
School board members must be a resident of the school district and have resided within the state for one year at the time of election or appointment and be at least 24 years of age. The term of a member is three years. The board has full legislative authority and control of the district as provided for in state law.
The Springfield R-12 Board of Education meets twice a month at 5:30 p.m. at Kraft Administrative Center, 1359 E. St. Louis St.
All meetings are recorded live in digital format and posted on the district website the day after the meeting. View taped meetings.
Agendas are available prior to board meetings through BoardDocs. The agenda for the upcoming meeting is accessible on Saturday before the Tuesday meeting. Click on "Enter public site" to view the agenda.
Community members are welcome to comment on board items at each meeting. However, requests to speak should be submitted prior to the beginning of the meeting. Forms are available at the door. Comments are limited to 5 minutes for topics related to agenda items and 3 minutes for items unrelated to the agenda.

SPS school board named Outstanding Board of Education in Governance
Springfield Public Schools Board of Education was recognized for its exemplary performance in the area of board governance at the 2011 Missouri School Boards’ Association annual conference Oct. 1. SPS board of education was one of four school boards across the state to be named as an Outstanding Board of Education.
Eight Missouri school boards were selected as finalists for the 2011 Outstanding Boards of Education Program sponsored by the Missouri School Boards’ Association. The program recognizes outstanding accomplishments in six categories – student achievement, facilities and budget, parent and community engagement, high quality staff, governance and school turnaround. There were 23 applicants in four of the categories – student achievement, budget and facilities, parent and community engagement, and governance.
