Board names new transportation director
Springfield Public Schools has a new transportation director. Michael J. Brown was named to the position during the Tuesday, March 14, regular monthly board meeting. His first day on the job is May1. Brown comes to the district from the Brown is a past president and board member of the Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation. He replaces Glenn Bradley who recently retired as SPS’s transportation director. Also Tuesday night: * The board unanimously approved the following items: That the district continue to retain Med-Pay, Inc. to provide health care services for district employees from April 1, 2006 to Oct. 1, 2007. That ARAMARK, Corp. continue to provide food services to the district beginning July 1, 2006. The contract will be renewable annually through June 30, 2011. ARAMARK has served the district for 15 years.
That necessary change orders be made to the * Superintendent Dr. Norm Ridder presented a framed certificate to board president Dr. * Dr. Hoeman praised the work of Jerry Harmison, who is leaving the board next month after serving six years. * Dr. Ridder recognized staff from the district and City Utilities of Springfield for collaborating to create the new CU Science Institute. The Science Institute is a two-year program that will allow sixth-, seventh-, eighth-grade and integrated science teachers to participate in utility system tours and educational events. The goal is to educate teachers about CU’s electric, natural gas, water, transit, energy management, renewable energy and environmental programs. |
