Boundary and Facility Usage Review
Grandfathering requests due by 4 p.m. Jan. 30, 2009
Grandfathering applications are currently being accepted for the students of Wanda Gray Elementary School and McBride Elementary School who wish to remain in their current school rather than attend the new southwest elementary, scheduled to open in August 2009.
Grandfathering applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, and should be submitted to the student's current school office. Applications may be accessed at the school site or online.
Current enrollment projections indicate the new southwest elementary school will be open to transfer students. Families wishing to attend the new school, but living outside of the southwest school attendance area may apply for a transfer in accordance with district transfer guidelines. Transfer Request Forms can be obtained in your respective school office.
When boundary changes occur within the district, families may take advantage of a Grandfathering Clause in order to remain in their present school, if space is available. Grandfathering will not be approved if it requires the hiring of an additional staff member for the student’s current school.
Grandfathering requests are granted on a first come, first serve basis. In certain scenarios siblings may also be approved for Grandfathering; check with your building principal for details.
Please direct District Grandfathering and Transfer guideline questions to Pam Bodine in the Records Office, 523-0011.
School board accepts Boundary/Facility Usage Review Final Report
The Springfield school board accepted the Boundary and Facility Usage Review Final Reportat its Nov. 18 meeting and approved implementation in 2009-2010 of four alternates that have little or no cost. The alternates will establish a boundary for the new southwest elementary school, revise boundaries for McBride and Gray elementary schools to reduce crowding, allow Study Middle School and Robberson Elementary School to investigate "choice" options and maintain Wilson's Creek Intermediate School as a 5th-6th center.
A letterwas sent home with McBride and Gray students Friday, Dec. 5 describing the new boundaries and explaining grandfathering and transfer options.
Other alternates will be prioritized and considered during annual budget discussions or as fiscal resources allow. Read more...
Overview
The Boundary and Facility Usage Review process will help Springfield Public Schools ensure effective and efficient use of resources by identifying ways to optimize building usage, improve feeder patterns and reconfigure attendance boundaries.
Please take time to review this information and participate in this important discussion. Information on this page will help you understand current boundary and facility usage, and evaluate proposed solutions to areas of concern.
The information in the Boundary and Facility Usage Review is divided by high school feeder patterns. Links are included to help you easily navigate through the document.
Explanations of possible changes, referred to as Alternates, are organized by high school feeder system. For example, if you want to know about changes that might affect Pipkin Middle School, look under the tab labeled Central High School. There you will find Alternate descriptions, flow charts of current and proposed feeder systems, tables that indicate proposed changes in student populations and building capacities, and maps that reflect any proposed boundary adjustments.
Under a separate tab, labeled KHS/PHS/SW Area is Alternate G, which specifically impacts the southwest area of the district and the Kickapoo and Parkview attendance areas.
It is important to note that some proposed Alternates can be made independently of others while some must be done in conjunction with each other.
