Boundary and Facility Usage Review

Kickapoo/Parkview/Southwest Area Boundary and Feeder Adjustments

Feeder Pattern Adjustments and Building Utilization:

The following includes Wilson’s Creek, Gray, McBride, and the new Southwest Elementary all configured as K-5 buildings and boundary adjustments at Jeffries Elementary School to reduce current crowding conditions. The new Southwest Elementary School would open as a “SPS Choice” or traditional school based on patron input. This alternate affects both the Kickapoo and Parkview feeder patterns and includes feeder adjustments for Cowden Elementary.

Alternate G: Kickapoo and Parkview Feeder System – Feeder Changes, Wilson’s Creek as a K-5 with boundary adjustments (Wilson’s Creek and Jeffries).

Alternate G:  Kickapoo and Parkview Feeder System – Feeder Changes, Wilson’s Creek as a K-5 with boundary adjustments (Wilson’s Creek and Jeffries).

  1. BOUNDARY CHANGE: Wilson’s Creek School would be reconfigured as a K-5 elementary school and would expand north of Republic Road.
  2. All elementary schools would return to K-5 configuration (includes Gray, McBride, and Southwest Elementary).
  3. BOUNDARY CHANGE: The new Southwest Elementary School’s boundaries would be drawn to reduce overcrowding at Gray, McBride, and Jeffries Elementary Schools. Gray would reduce by 137 students K-5; McBride would reduce by 148 students K-5; Jeffries would reduce by 44 students K-5.
  4. FEEDER CHANGE: The new Southwest Elementary School would send students to Cherokee Middle School and Kickapoo High School. This would shift 10 students 6-8 from Carver Middle School to Cherokee Middle School. There is no change at the high school division. (an average of 3 incoming 6th grade students to Cherokee MS).
  5. FEEDER/BOUNDARY CHANGE: Wilson’s Creek K-5 would send students to Carver Middle School and Kickapoo High School. This would shift 106 students 6-8 from Cherokee Middle School to Carver Middle School (an average of 35 incoming 6th grade students to Carver MS). This would also shift 91 students 9-12 from Parkview to Kickapoo High School (an average of 23 incoming freshmen to KHS).
  6. BOUNDARY CHANGE: Jeffries Elementary School’s boundaries would change with the current area west of Golden incorporated into Wilson’s Creek Elementary School and the new Southwest Elementary School shifting 44 students to the Southwest Elementary and 239 students to Wilson’s Creek.
  7. BOUNDARY CHANGE: Jeffries Elementary School’s boundary would expand north to Battlefield Road, reducing crowding issues at Mark Twain Elementary School; 177 students K-5 would shift from Mark Twain to Jeffries.
  8. FEEDER CHANGE: Jeffries Elementary School would send students to Carver Middle School and Parkview High School shifting 102 students from Kickapoo High School to Parkview (an average of 26 incoming freshmen to PHS); this would not affect Carver Middle School.
  9. FEEDER/BOUNDARY CHANGE: Mark Twain Elementary School’s southern boundary would move north to Battlefield Road; Mark Twain would incorporate some of the Western portion of Sherwood Elementary School. Twain would send 177 students to Jeffries Elementary and receive 35 students from Sherwood Elementary.
  10. BOUNDARY CHANGE: Gray, McBride, Disney, and the new Southwest Elementary School would send students to Cherokee Middle School and Kickapoo High School. Current plans include returning the 6th grade students from Disney Elementary School to Cherokee Middle School which will shift 100 students to Cherokee Middle School.
  11. FEEDER CHANGE: Wilson’s Creek and Mann Elementary Schools would send students to Carver Middle School and Kickapoo High School.
  12. Cherokee Middle School would increase by the number of 6th grade students at Gray, McBride, Disney, and the new Southwest Elementary Schools (Gray = 91, McBride = 77, Disney = 100, Southwest = 55) and would decrease by the 7th and 8th grade students in the south part of Wilson’s Creek (= 73).
  13. FEEDER CHANGE: Cowden Elementary School would send all students to Glendale High School shifting 44 students   9-12 from Kickapoo High School and 88 from Parkview High School (on average 33 incoming freshmen to GHS).
  14. Future consideration should be made for an addition at the Southwest Elementary School campus to accommodate 6-8 students.  This addition could relieve Carver Middle School and Cherokee Middle School if growth patterns continue.  It could also be used to continue any “SPS Choice” options if one is selected at the Southwest Elementary School and could help alleviate remaining split feeder pattern concerns.
