| Educational Technology | Below are several sites where you can get royalty free images for your use. These descripitions were taken from a great Photoshop resource http://www.swift-images.com/photoshop-pro/ Stock Xchng
This is a very simple and easy site to navigate. Sign up with them and thousands of free stock photos are at your finger tips. You can search by category, do advanced searches, visit the blog, and check out their tutorials on photography. About all the photos come in at 300ppi and vary around 5 to 10 inches on the long side. This site is an excellent resource for a very large number of free images. I did a quick search for "fire" and up came approximately 1,000 photos. They even have one image of an aardvark!
YotoPhoto
Originally an experiment to facilitate easier image searching of the Wikipedia, Yotophoto eventually expanded to index other well known free image sites and now index over a quarter million free images! The site is very easy to use and, as noted, there are an amazing number of available images. You don't have to register but when clicking an image, you will jump to the site where it comes from (stock.xchng, for example) and you may need to register there. The registering thing is no problem, though; you don't get spammed, and the site owners are just trying to keep track of how many are downloading what. This also helps them prevent an entire site's worth of images being ripped by someone with evil intentions.
Geek Philosopher
Many different categories of images to choose from here. Also, if you click the "Tao of Web" link at the top, you get links to a host of information about web sites and the internet: web basics, development tools, cyberspace life, and more.
Stock Vault
Stock Vault has a collection of over 7,000 royalty-free, high resolution images, templates, and logos.
You'll also find free tutorials, textures, and fonts on the site, as well as a bunch more.
DreamsTime
You'll need to pay for the high resolution images, but the prices are quite inexpensive.
Free Range Stock
A nice feature of the site is that if you don't find an image you're looking for, request it — they have a substantial archive not online yet, and may very well have it for you. There are also links to tutorials, and an online catalogue of 1,500 images (up to 2,000 coming soon).
Morgue File
If you do take advantage of their free registration, you can create your own lightbox where you can store all the images you've selected for future use. In addition to that, they have a link for the forum, blog, and even a jobs page.
Image After
The images are high-resolution and large. Give them a try.
