Cross-Categorical Teacher: Elizabeth Flood

Elizabeth Flood

Hello!  My name is Elizabeth Flood, and I am thrilled about joining the Harrison Elementary staff.  I will be the Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher.  I have been with Springfield Schools since 1994, when I started teaching at my alma mater, Parkview High School.  Springfield Schools has provided me many wonderful avenues to grow and learn new things, including being a case manager at Parkview and Hillcrest, doing early childhood Special Education evaluations, teaching summer school at Parkview, Kickapoo, and Jeffries, and working part-time as a process coordinator in the Special Education Office.  I have spent the last 9 years at Springfield Option Site on the campus of Boys and Girls Town of Missouri.  There, I have worked in Kindergarten-12th grade classrooms and served as Itinerant Special Education Teacher, which provided very unique opportunities to work with children with special needs, as well as the dedicated staff at SOS and Boys and Girls Town.  I enjoy new challenges and am always seeking to learn new ways to better reach students.

I love children and can’t remember ever wanting to be involved in any career other than education.  I consider teaching my calling and feel blessed that it brings me such joy.  I find nothing more precious than children, and I take the responsibility of being entrusted with their education very seriously.  My husband Jim and I live in Southwest Springfield, and I look forward to partnering with the families to serve the students of Harrison Elementary.  When not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time watching my children, Bailey and Aram, play their many sports, participating in church activities, spending time outdoors, supporting the Cardinals, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
