Jean Grabeel

Jean Grabeel is the Coordinator of Health Services for Springfield Public Schools, serving over 24,000 students in Springfield, MO.  She is a graduate of St John’s School of Nursing; and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Missouri State University.  She earned her Master’s in Health Education with an emphasis in health and wellness from University of Missouri- Columbia.

Jean has been the recipient of the Governor’s Excellence in Education Achievement Award, Missouri State School Nurse Administrator of the Year, Springfield Chamber of Commerce Salute to Health Care Award, an American Cancer Society National School Health Educator Fellow as well as Southwest Missouri Nurses’ Florence Nightingale Award.

She currently serves on the National Association of School Nurses executive committee and board of directors. She has two children, Autumn and Lucas, who have answered the call to Hollywood. An author, educator, and international speaker, she believes that you should do what you love and love what you do!

The mission of Health Services is to assist students to achieve academically and socially in the school environment by promoting health and wellness for all students. We will work, collaboratively with students, colleagues, parents and community to ensure a safe, healthy environment where continuous learning can occur.

Overview

The school nurse strengthens and facilitates the educational process by identifying, modifying or re-mediating health-related barriers to learning. This includes appropriate assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation management and/or referral activities; serves as direct link between physicians, families and community agencies to assure access and continuity of health care of students; and provides relevant instruction, counseling, and guidance to students, parents, staff and others concerning health related issues.
