A huge thanks to the Foundation for Springfield Public Schools for putting on another great Teacher Appreciation Banquet April 20. Speakers included out-going district Teacher of the Year, Beth Nickle, retired teacher Sandy Harrison, and April Berry of Wilson’s Creek 5-6 School. Harrison was a counselor at Kickapoo when Nickle was a student there. Nickle taught April Berry at Bailey Alternative High School. Not surprising the theme of this year’s banquet was “the ripple effect” teachers have on the lives of their students.

Dozens of district students competed April 25 in the Language Arts Department (LAD) Fair of Southwest Missouri, writing essays, journals, poetry, stories, and competing in the spelling bee. See complete results at www.ladfair.com - Language Arts Department

The community at Hickory Hills Middle School donated over 468 pounds of food to the Ozarks Food Harvest. It was part of the student council’s spring community service project.

Kickapoo High School art students Marc Hardy, Kristen Smieshek and Carole Finley were named winners in this year’s CASA holiday card design contest. Their work was honored at an April 16 reception at Randy Bacon Gallery and displayed during Arts Fest on Walnut Street. Other holiday card winners were: Tori Frizell – Sherwood elementary; Chucky Swift – Glendale high; Claire Willard – Gray elementary.
