Parents and Students,
Well, it is that time again. What an exciting time for the children, and their families. I hope everyone has had an exciting and fun filled beginning of school so far!
My name is Mrs. Carol Cunningham, and this is the beginning of my 23rd year of teaching. Most of my teaching career has been here at Pershing. My children also went to Pershing. What a great, and blessed school!!
April 20th the children will not be coming to school. The teachers are going to be having a Professional Developement day.
Here are a few things that will be helpful this school year.
2nd Grade Supply List :
Glue
Scissors
ruler
pencils (yellow/#2 lead)
Art Box (small cigar box type)
2-3 Pocket Folders
2 Spiral Notebooks for Journals
Kleenex Box (optional)

4-5 dry erase markers
grading pen
Most importantly, bring this daily, a smiling face, respect for others, and a willingness to learn!!!
Lunch is at 12:30 ,
We have snack at around 10:00. The children may bring a healthy snack from home. They can purchase snack milk daily, or weekly from the Cafe. The cost is $.40.
If they would rather have juice, than school milk, they may bring it from home. I hope this helps, and if you have questions, please ask me. Thanks!

Weekly Assignments :
Every night students are expected to practice their Spelling words : They also are to read for 10 minutes, or more to an adult ,or older sibling and that person should sign the student's Reading Log to turn in on Friday for a Homework grade.
Home Links is our homework for Math. This week we do have math homework. They are Home Links lessons for this week:
LESSONS11.2 to 11.6.
Our Field Trip to the Dickerson Park Zoo will be on May 2, 2012. We will travel on a school bus leaving the school at 9:00 returning to school by12:00PM. The children will eat lunch here at school at the usual time. If you have any questions please call me, or leave a message at 523-2649.

The first of every chapter Parents will want to receive,( from your child's homework folder) and read the first couple of pages of the chapter lesson. They are mainly for the parents to read and be introduced to the Home Link assignment process. They also contain the ANSWERS to your child's Practice pages they do almost nightly. These Practice pages are used as extra practice to help the children improve their math skills. It is important for them to do each assignment from the Home Link.
The first page of each unit contains the" ANSWERs" to the children's nightly homework for the UNIT. Please put it somewhere that you can have access to it. It should make the homework process easier! Please initial or sign the nightly homework for Math Home Link only! It shows us that you looked over it with your child. Did you notice that I repeated the helpful hint about the ANSWERS for the chapters? I hope this does help! If you have questions please write me a note or leave a phone message. Thanks!
