The staff of Portland Elementary hopes that you have had a wonderful winter break and that you and your children are as eager as we are to start the new semester! Our next PTA event/meeting is January 17, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Students in grades 3-5 will be participating in a Spelling Bee!
Students are focusing on new learning skills in every classroom. From kindergarten through fifth grade, students are learning, with their teachers reinforcing reading, writing, math, social skills, and science skills.
Teachers are learning how to use new technology in their classrooms. Every classroom now has a SmartBoard, computer(s), projector, and most have Elmo cameras. Teachers are learning how to use this technology in a variety of subject areas. It is exciting to be a part of this new learning at Portland.
Our staff and students really appreciate the PTA for all the great support they give us all year long. I STRONGLY encourage each and every one of you to show your support by becoming a member this year. Our staff has been challenged to a 100% goal.
If you have any questions, please call the office at 523-4600. We know with you and the staff working together, your child will have the best learning year ever!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lora E. Hopper, principal
