Mrs. Sara Polk, Third Grade

Mrs. Sara Polk I am originally from Green Forest, Arkansas, but I moved to Bolivar, Missouri to attend college at SBU in the fall of 1994.  I graduated from SBU in the spring of 1998 and began teaching that fall in Hermitage, Missouri.  I taught both fourth and fifth grade in Hermitage before moving to Springfield in 2000.  I began teaching in Springfield at Bissett Elementary.  While at Bissett I taught fifth grade, a third/fourth combination class and third grade.  I then moved to Portland Elementary.  This is my fourth year teaching third grade at Portland.

My parents both still live in Arkansas, and I enjoy getting the opportunity to go and visit them often.  I have a wonderful group of friends both here in Springfield and throughout the state.  I am grateful for both my friendships and my family.

I absolutely love to read!  My favorite author is Karen Kingsbury.  I was so excited last year when she came to Springfield and I had the opportunity to meet her.  I enjoy collecting children’s books.  I am always on the look out for new authors and new stories to share with my class.

My philosophy of teaching is that all children can learn, and it is my job as a teacher to find out how they learn best.  I am a strong advocate for differentiated instruction (meeting students on their level).  I also believe in getting to know students personally.  It is important for my classroom to be based on mutual respect between myself and my students.  Thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with your child.
