Mission Statement: The mission at Bissett Elementary School is to provide a safe, respectful and inclusive environment where all students will learn at high levels.
School Profile:
- We are a small neighborhood school of 237 students in the northwest corner of Springfield. Our students enjoy an atmosphere of caring and warmth where the qualities of good citizenship are taught and demonstrated to provide a safe, respectful and nurturing environment.
- Over the years, our PTA has fostered strong community support that sustains our family atmosphere. The PTA does an outstanding job of promoting positive parent participation in activities and in the classroom.
- Collaborating with community groups makes a positive difference in the lives of our students. Morelock-Ross, Holland Solutions, ARAMARK Education, Drury University, Immanuel Baptist Church and Christ Episcopal Church are our primary Partners in Education. They contribute incentives and resources to encourage attendance and good character. YMCA Prime Time after-school program is also offered.
- Our teachers use research-based instruction, known to be the best educational practice. We participate in the Partnership in Comprehensive Literacy Model. A balanced literacy curriculum is emphasized throughout all content areas to establish high academic success for all students. The comprehensive program provides a full-time literacy coach. Title I federal funding provides intervention and support programs including reading recovery.
- Bissett has a full-time math coach who promotes problem solving with math advantage and math recovery programs and a “problem of the week.”
