Mission Statement: The mission of Kickapoo High School is to facilitate a high level of learning and performance to prepare students for their futures in a global society.
School Profile:
- With 1,719 students, Kickapoo is Springfield’s largest public high school. An $8-million building expansion added modern science facilities and library.
- Kickapoo has been honored twice by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. We provide rigorous courses to prepare students for life. With more than 100 teachers, we offer advanced placement, dual enrolled and honors courses. Our science, business, speech and debate, and fine arts students consistently excel in national competitions. The 2009 graduating class accepted over $4.7 million in scholarships.
- We offer about 40 clubs and activities in academics, band, chess, choir, drama, orchestra, speech and debate and business.
- We had the district’s highest graduation rate (90.1 percent in 2007-2008). In 2008, 81.3 percent of graduates took the ACT; our composite score is consistently above state and national averages. Our students consistently make Adequate Yearly Progress under No Child Left Behind in communication arts and math.
- Kickapoo is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and received a AAA classification from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Our teachers average 12.6 years’ experience and 66 percent of teachers have a master’s degree or higher.
- KHS has a rich tradition of achievement in sports. In recent years, we’ve won state championships in boys and girls basketball and earned top four finishes in swimming, golf and cross country.
