- We are a neighborhood school where students, parents and teachers know one another by name. With an enrollment of approximately 241, our school makes students feel welcome, safe, and supported.
- Parent involvement and community pride are evident at Watkins. Many families have had multiple generations of students attend our school.
- Our student-teacher ratio of 21 to1 enables teachers to provide the individual attention and support for each student to ensure they reach their full academic potential.
- Watkins teaching staff is devoted and highly skilled: 54.6 percent have advanced degrees; 100 percent are certified in the area they teach; 100 percent are considered highly qualified teachers. They possess an average of 15.3 years’ teaching experience.
- Title I federal funding provides additional resources for teachers and students, and provides intervention and support programs for students who struggle academically.
- Watkins has consistently met Adequate Yearly Progress, a measure of academic performance set forth by No Child Left Behind.
- Watkins is committed to excellence in attendance and has met or exceeded the district goal of 95 percent for the past two years.
- Watkins students go on to attend Reed Middle School and Hillcrest High School.
- Watkins is an air-conditioned facility.
- Watkins PTA is very involved in supporting our school. Due to excellent leadership, Watkins PTA doubled its membership in 2008-09. Many activities are planned to encourage family involvement.
- Watkins is a Caring Communities school. Caring Communities provides funds for after-school clubs, extra-curricular activities, and incentives to encourage student attendance.
