Buzzworthy Behavior
Sunshine Elementary participates in a School-wide Positive Behavior Support system approach that we call "Buzzworthy Behavior". This approach establishes the social culture and behavior supports needed for Sunshine to be a safe and effective learning environment for all students.
Students are recognized for their Buzzworthy behavior in three different ways.
- Buzzer - Teachers give out Buzzers to students who they have caught being respectful, responsible, ready, safe, or trustworthy. Staff members may give out as many of these as they want. Students bring their Buzzers to the office to get a treat and stamp their hand.
- Principal's Buzzworthy Club - Staff members may give out one or two of these rewards a week. They are reserved for students who display Buzzworthy behavior all day or week long. Students who get one of these rewards draw a number and their name goes on a chart corresponding to that number. They write their name in the Buzzworthy Celebrity Book and a phone call goes home to their parents. Once a row of ten names on the chart has been filled out, all of those students get a prize. This prize could be a popsicle, lunch with the principal, stuffed animals, or a trip to the treasure chest. You never know what they may win.
- Positive Buzzworhy Referral Form - This is the hardest recognition to earn. It is reserved for students who have been Buzzworthy for an extended period of time. Teachers may only give out one or two of these a month. Students bring their referral forms to the office. They are signed by the principal and copied to be sent home. Students earn a Sunshine Buzzworthy bracelet. All certificates are posted on the walls outside of the office. We would love to line all of the halls of Sunshine with this coveted award.
At all times students should be able to tell you what their Buzzworthy behavior percentage is. This is figured based on the classroom management system that is used. Students who have a high enough percentage are eligible to attend our Buzzworthy Big Events. These events will be held quarterly.
