Truman Elementary sign boardSchool info:

  • We are a community school where students, parents and teachers know one another by name. With an enrollment of about 380, our school makes students feel safe and supported.  We serve Pre-K through fifth grade in our building.
  • Parent involvement and community pride are evident at our school. Our PTA encourages parental involvement through many enrichment activities, spirit days, fundraisers and school events.  Many parents volunteer in the classrooms of our school. We are lucky to have involved families in the Truman community.
  • Truman offers before- and after-school care through the YMCA Prime Time program. We are also a SPARC (Schools, Parks Are Reaching Communities) site. SPARC offers after-school extracurricular activities for students such as martial arts, chess club, floor hockey, cooking club, cheerleading, tennis, golf, basketball, baseball, Lego club, cup stacking club, soccer, MAD Science and more.
  • Our community is growing by leaps and bounds. Construction of new homes is happening all around us, and we are thrilled to meet the many new Truman families moving into our community.

District News

Springfield Public Schools is currently experiencing problems with its e-mail system. We have recently received several phishing e-mails, resulting in the SPS e-mail account being blocked by large e-mail providers such as SBCGLOBAL and Hotmail, among others.

We have requested that these e-mail providers remove SPS from their blocked lists and they have done so. However, as these phishing e-mails continue to cycle through our e-mail system we may be repeatedly blocked as it runs its course.

Unfortunately this is disrupting e-mail communication between parents and SPS teachers. Please understand that SPS has not blocked parents’ e-mail addresses. Instead, SPS e-mails have been blocked by parents’ e-mail providers.

We will continue to monitor this issue. Meantime, please remember that SPS will never ask for your user name or password via e-mail.

Last day of school to be May 23
Springfield Public Schools expects to end the 2011-2012 school year Wednesday, May 23. Students will be dismissed two hours early that day. Read more about end-of-school-year activities.
